SEARCHING TIPS
For a complete list
of values used in the Valuesfinder, click on the underlined word "Values"
(above).
For a complete list
of authors and titles, leave all fields empty and click on "Search." Remember
that this list changes because new authors and titles are always being added to
the Valuesfinder database.
To search for a
specific author or title, check the box to the left of the author field or to
the left of the title field. In the author field, search by last name first,
e.g., Kimmel, Eric A. In the title field, enter the exact title with beginning
articles, "A." "An," and "The," placed at the end, e.g., Jar of Fools, The. If
you don't get any results, it may be because you are spelling or entering the
data differently from the way it is spelled or entered in the Valuesfinder
database. If this happens, remove the check marks from the author or title
boxes and try a regular keyword search (see below).
Searching the New
Jewish Valuesfinder is by keyword. You
may search by author, title, illustrator, ISBN, subject, and values. Your
search may be refined by grade level, publisher, year of publication, age
level, and award winner. For the
most efficient searching, USE AS FEW WORDS IN A FIELD AS POSSIBLE. For
example:
Chicken
Soup By Heart by Esther Hershenhorn.
Author search: Use
Hershenhorn, not Esther Hershenhorn or Hershenhorn, Esther
Title search: Use
chicken or soup or heart, not Chicken Soup by Heart
Values: Use aged,
not honoring the aged
Use bikur, not bikur cholim
Use visiting, not visiting the sick
